Key Achievements
Providing HIV preventive services to 14,924FSW, 10,965 MSM, 348 IDUs, 10,000 truckers, and 128,670 migrants.
38,098 episodes of Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI) cases treated.
1,69,36,539 condoms distributed (including 1,561,876 through social marketing).
28,756 HIV testing conducted.
Mobile ICTC-cum-STI clinics launched in 5 districts to provide services to hard to reach migrants and other high risk groups.
Innovative approaches/strategies implemented to foster behavior change, influence health seeking behavior and risk perception among the target groups. Examples: “Dancing Feat”, “Kishori-Vatika”, “Aaruyir” A Source destination model for prevention among migrants, Peer Melava and “Saadhan Clinic.”
Positive prevention programs including income generation, lost to Follow-up, advocacy, linkages to government schemes, Home Based Care (HBC), Orphan & Vulnerable Children (OVC) care and follow-up on discordant couples implemented with district level Positive People Networks in 8 districts.
Services provided to 20,736 PLHIV.
GFATM (Round VII) supported Link Workers Scheme (LWS) implemented in 23 districts of Maharashtra in a phased manner.
Strategic models (through Corporate Social Responsibility/Foundation, Trade Unions, NGOs/Trusts and Industrial Association) implemented under Work Place Intervention to reach the potential clients of sex workers.
95 Corporate and Industrial Associations provided Technical Assistance for rolling sustainable HIV/ AIDS workplace programs
208 Master Trainers developed.
248 HIV/AIDS policies developed through Avert Society and its funded partners.
1071 NGO staff trained on Basic facts, 532 Master Trainers on Peer Development, 1315 Peer Educators on HIV/AIDS and skill building, 705 doctors and nurses on care and treatment and 124 counselors on counseling skills.
State officials’ capacity built on Curriculum Development, Statistical Analysis using software packages, District AIDS Prevention Control Unit (DAPCU) mainstreaming, Condom Social Marketing, IEC material utilization & Behavior Change Communication.
Avert Society is the State Training Resource Center (STRC) for Maharashtra, Mumbai, Goa and Dadra & Nagar Haveli SACS.
Avert Society as a Technical Support Unit (TSU) is strengthening 46 NGOs supported by MSACS, 41 NGOs from MDACS and 9 NGOs of Goa SACS.
Periodic Behavioral Surveillance Surveys (BSS) Wave I – V have been conducted in Avert Society districts to track the outcomes & assess the impact of the HIV preventive programs.
For the first time BSS for the whole Maharashtra State was undertaken by Avert Society.
Studies conducted on ‘Dynamics of Men having sex with Men and Hijras,’ Stigma & Discrimination.’
Evaluation of various programs, campaigns have been undertaken.
Robust Management Information System (MIS) with Data Quality Assurance (DQA) checks in place.
Monitoring and evaluation of program performance strengthened employing novel approaches like Participatory Site Visit (PSV), Experience Sharing & Review Meet (ESRM), District Review meetings.
Innovative theme specific IEC materials developed through active NGO participation (migrant wallet, condulumn, information booklets, pocket dairies, parrot tool kit, exhibition set, care & support kit, posters, referral booklet, memory game, saap seedi, cricket game kit, etc.).
Multi-media campaign for Youth ‘Jawan Hoon Nadan Nahin’ and Care and Support campaign ‘Akele Nahin Hein Aap, Hum Bhi Hein Saath’.
Observe marker events like World AIDS Day, Pandharpur yatra, Ganesh festival, Navratri through mid-media activities.
Coordinated and implemented the Red Ribbon Express (RRE) visit to state in joint partnership with MSACS, MDACS and state lead partners.
Engaging IEC vans, wall paintings, hoardings, bus panels and interactive BCC activities to ensure effective reach of HIV/AIDS related messages and information.
