Making Your Voices Heard
gandhi-1

Gandhi had said that you may never know what results come of your action, but if you do nothing there will be no result.

Emerson Network Power (India) Pvt. Ltd had always been known as a leader in the power solutions business. They had never made a foray into the communities that they were an integral part of. They made sure power solutions of businesses were addressed and just woke up to the needs of the communities.

The Managers of Emerson realized that the employees were their most coveted assets, and their lives need to be safeguarded just as the company valued its professionalism and ability to deliver.

December 1st, 2008 was the right time that the company could showcase its other persona.
This was the day to stand up and lend a voice to the fight against HIV/AIDS, the day to create a compassionate and empathetic atmosphere in society towards those infected and affected by HIV. Emerson Network Power (India) Pvt. Ltd with support from Avert Society organized a half day of activity on HIV awareness and sensitization, under the theme ‘DARE TO CARE’ – Maharashtra responds to HIV/AIDS.

The day was filled with information and entertainment- infotainment in short. A short skit was prepared by the TANDAV group. The main aim of which, was to use the medium of theatrical entertainment to enlighten people and make them aware of how HIV spreads; the precautions that can be taken that are easy to adhere to – to remain safe. The group also highlighted the importance of showing sensitivity and compassion towards people living with HIV.

Visibly moved by this performance, all the employees debated, discussed and sought more information on the topic. They were also educated about other issues like the importance of living a healthy and hygienic lifestyle. At the end of the discussion, candles were lit and a memorial service was held for those who lost their lives to HIV.

The success of this initiative saw its replication all over the country.  Through programs like this- people were informed about the perils of HIV and the important steps that society needed to take to ensure that lives were protected – not lost to this disease. It underscored the importance of banishing stigma and discrimination, by empowering people to make healthy and safe choices.

Emerson had gradually kindled a movement to making this country a safer, healthier and more compassionate place.
