Care & Support
The Maharashtra Government has scaled up Integrated Counseling and Testing Centers (ICTC), Community Care Centers (CCC) and ART services in the state. Avert Society’s goal is to support increased utilization of these services.
Drop In Centers (DICs)
There are 7 Drop-In Centers (DICs) in various districts of Maharashtra which are implemented by the Positive Networks. The Goal of is “To enhance the quality of life of PLHIVs and their families by establishing a Drop-In Centre”
Objectives
To mobilize the community and identify new PLHIVs and CLHIVs
To ensure linkages and referrals to provide continuum of care
To increase the knowledge of PLHIVs and Family members on HIV/ AIDS
Advocacy with family, key stakeholders and other community members to reduce stigma and discrimination
Approach and Strategy
To use peer based activities with right based approach to develop support to PLHIVs and their families.
DIC provides following Care and Support services at districts level:
The Drop-in-center will provide psychosocial support through need based services - Counseling:
Pre /Post/ Family & Supportive counseling, legal support, home visits, support group etc.
Development of linkages and referrals with the various stake holders for providing smooth services.
Advocacy
Positive Prevention
Capacity Building of care givers and PLHIVs through the Innovative Programs
Home-based scare trainings.
Follow up with health centers for ART and other drug adherence.
Orphan Vulnerable Children Program (OVC)
Care and support of the OVC NGOs are extended through institutional and community based services. The Orphan and Vulnerable Children (OVC) project was started with the objective to cater to the psycho-social needs of the Infected and Affected children living with HIV and their family members, capacity building of children through various life skills programs, advocacy and reducing stigma and discrimination.LSE, Referral, Medical, specialized pediatric counseling, nutritional and educational support, educational visits and vocational training is provided to. There are regular Parents meeting through which the NGO encourages reintegrating these children in to the mainstream society.
CCDT is implementing an Orphan and Vulnerable Children’s (OVC) project since October 2006. This program is implemented through two projects, one project is for Children in crisis whose parents are HIV positive and another project started with the objective to break the cycle of prostitution and hence provides shelter to the vulnerable children of sex workers.
Link Worker Scheme
Avert Society implements a Link Workers’ Scheme in 24 districts of Maharashtra.
Goal
Reach out to HRGs and vulnerable men and women in rural areas with information, knowledge, skills on STI/HIV prevention and risk reduction.
Objectives
Increasing the availability and use of condoms among HRGs and other vulnerable men and women.
Establishing referral and follow-up linkages for various services including treatment for
STIs, testing and treatment for TB, ICTC/PPTCT services, HIV care and support services including ART.
Creating an enabling environment for PLHA and their families, reducing stigma and discrimination against them through interactions with existing community structures/ groups, e.g. Village Health Committees (VHC) , Self Help Groups (SHG) and Panchayati Raj Institutes (PRI).
