Goals & Objectives
The overall goal of Avert Project is to support the Government of India reduce the negative impact of the HIV/AIDS epidemic on the country’s social, economic and human development.
Avert Society is specifically committed to reduce the prevalence of HIV from 1 % to less than 0.5% by 2011, and to increase the utilization of care and support services in six districts of Maharashtra.
Objectives set for reaching the overall goal:
To scale up prevention activities to saturate (85 to 90%) coverage of high-risk groups and vulnerable populations in six districts
To saturate the high risk coverage, increase utilization of Integrated Counseling and Testing Centre and Care, support and treatment services in six districts through community mobilization
To increase involvement of private partners in HIV programs by implementing a state level Work Place Intervention (WPI) /private sector program on HIV/AIDS
To ensure the sustainability of the program in six districts by building capacity of NGOs, CBOs, public and private health care institutions.
To sustain behavior change among high risk groups through communication initiatives
To scale up and strengthen intervention strategies of the states by providing Technical Assistance to MSACS, MDACS and Goa SACS
