Prevention Strategy
Prevention Strategy
Avert Society is implementing targeted Intervention with high risk behavior groups; mainly Female Sex Workers (FSW), Men Having Sex With Men (MSM) and Intravenous Drug Users (IDU), as well as migrant workers and truckers.
The main aim is to ensure awareness about safe behavior practices, and provide an environment for behavior change.
These activities are implemented through Non Governmental Organizations (NGOs), Faith Based Organizations (FBOs) and Community Based Organizations (CBOs).
Some of the areas of adherence that Avert Society believes in are:
Integrated counseling and testing centers
Condom accessibility and availability
Peer progression
Advocacy and enabling environment activities for processes
Procedural and policy changes and referral for continuum of care
Workplace Intervention
Avert Society is implementing Workplace Intervention Programs to reach out to the formal and informal sector workforce, through a 3-pronged approach:
Five directly funded projects -
implemented through corporates, social foundations/CSR, industrial associations and NGOs.
Technical assistance & capacity building -
of the organization for implementing HIV/AIDS workplace programs & policies.
Advocacy meetings & workshops -
with the corporate, trade unions and industrial associations for sensitization on HIV/AIDS related workplace issues.
Through Workplace Intervention, Avert Society has reached out to around 1367 businesses (large, medium and small scale industries) covering approx. 1,56,240 workers from organized and unorganized sectors; and has formulated 98 HIV/AIDS workplace policies.
Avert Society has also provided technical assistance to corporate business houses for taking complete ownership and accountability of HIV/AIDS programs, by integrating them with their existing staff welfare and CSR activities. This is crucial for creating a sustainable and conducive work environment within the workplace/campus.
The International Labor Organization (ILO) provides technical support to Avert, for Workplace Intervention.
Condom Promotion
This is a cross-cutting strategy of Avert Society, with a focus on strengthening all prevention, care & support projects, for promoting consistent and correct use of condoms.
The strategy includes de-sensitization and increasing use of condoms through: condom demonstrations and re-demonstrations, free distribution of condoms, establishment of condom outlets, condom social marketing and promoting female condoms.
The focus is on building capacities of sub grantees, and holding regular meetings of sub grantees to review condom promotion activities.
Avert Society collaborates with Hindustan Latex Family Planning Promotion Trust (HLFPPT) to provide technical assistance for implementing Condom Social Marketing programs for male and female condoms, through the sub grantees.
